1st May brought the massively popular Selkirk Bike Festival which is organised as part of the Selkirk MTB Marathon. The plan is take cycling to the community and they do this by closing the main high street and setting up lots of bike related activities which are free for everybody to have a go. Its a fantastic idea and this year included the very popular airbag, trails display team, rollapulaza, our new pump track and a whole bunch of equipment and bikes, not forgetting Hardie’s Bikes who setup a pop-up shop. With small narrow streets, open shops, toddlers, teenagers and racers the atmosphere was fantastic. A big well done to Paul and his team for doing this as it certainly appears to bring everybody together to have a good time on bikes.
We had a great time, with a new track and a full team we worked hard to ensure everybody had a go, saying that we could have done with another 50m of space and a bigger track given the number of people that were there. Everybody from toddlers on balance bikes to some of the marathon riders got involved and judging by the smiles and racing everybody seemed to enjoy the new track.
A big thank you to everybody who had a go! hopefully see you again next year.
